Vaasa, Finland, The Tikanoja Art Museum
What does infatuation with the visual arts do to the viewer? What did composer, musician and artist Sandor Vály (b. 1968) experience in the Prado in front of Bruegel’s paintings? And what did Modest Musorgski experience in the memorial exhibition of his friend Viktor Hartmann in St Petersburg in 1874? Ecstasy Day prepares you for encountering the iconic images of the Picasso exhibition. Stendhal syndrome is approached with the “Hot, hot, hot” method – by listening to music relating to the infatuating nature of the visual arts. According to the author Stendhal, acute visual arts ecstasy resembles both musical ecstasy and love at first sight. At least the former is experienced on Ecstasy Day of the Tikanoja Art Museum…
